In the fast-paced and ever-evolving world of medical devices, experienced professionals are highly sought after. Jason McClellan is one such recruitment professional who has made a name for himself in the industry. After a brief hiatus, he has returned to work at Real Staffing, a leading staffing agency that specializes in the recruitment of professionals for the medical device industry. With experience in various roles within the industry, Jason brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new role. In this article, we'll delve into Jason's personal experience working in the medical device recruitment industry and explore his passion in working with professionals in this field.
Jason, you have returned to the Real Staffing business recently having worked for the company prior. What were the reasons that made you want to rejoin the team and organization?
After working with Real Staffing for a few years I was approached by a college friend about an opportunity that was interesting to me at the time. I don’t regret taking the job because I wanted to gain experience in other industries, and I learned a lot about myself and what matters to me. However, I realized how important good leadership, collaboration, and teamwork meant to me and I missed working in the life sciences industry. Plus, Vivianne kept in touch with me, and I knew I could hit the ground running at a great company. When I finally reached out I was welcomed back with open arms and I’m excited to be back working closely with Vivianne and the rest of the team.
What areas within STEM do you recruit for?
Our major areas for demand in the Midwest tend to be from Medical Device and Diagnostic companies. I help companies fill direct-hire openings in software, systems, and electrical engineering and leadership. These specialty engineering roles involve designing and developing cutting-edge products, typically classified as Class II or Class III medical devices.
What do you see as the growth areas within the sector you cover?
Embedded Software, Systems, and Cybersecurity Engineers with medical device product development experience are highly sought after by my clients. Due to the regulations that exist with the FDA and notified bodies, hiring managers really want engineers that have worked on medical products through the whole product life cycle, from concept to commercialization, and have done all the documentation throughout the process for quality standards and FDA Submissions.
What is special about working as a partner in the Medical Device industry?
I think what’s most special to me about working in this industry is that I get to speak with brilliant people who develop devices that save and/or extend people’s lives. When I was a 22-year-old college athlete, I had two strokes in my sleep and was lucky enough to get immediate medical attention. Then, a couple of years ago I placed an engineer that was directly involved in the circuit design for one of the devices that helped save my life. I have first-hand appreciation of the work that people in this industry do and how it positively impacts millions of patients and their families by not only sustaining lives but dramatically improving the quality of life for many patients here in the Us but also globally with the work they do.
Which parts of the role do you enjoy the most?
I like the relationships you get to develop with clients and candidates. I have created some good friendships with people I have helped build engineering teams for, as well as candidates I have helped navigate the job market and placed into positions that changed their lives for the better. In addition to my customers, I love the energy of the team that I work in, We have some interesting characters that definitely make the job fun, but also help create an environment where you feel valued.
Why should clients or candidates in the medical device industry reach out to you and the team?
